BC “Heavy” Biermann is an internationally recognized digital artist, founder of Heavy Projects,
an Associate Professor of Emerging Media at CAVAD, and a Senior Civic Media Fellow at the
USC Annenberg Innovation Lab. BC is a leading pioneer in augmented reality design and his
interactive works have been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, the Moscow Arts Festival, the
University of Geneva, San Francisco Design Week, Siggraph in Los Angeles, and the Austin
Museum of Digital Art. With a PhD from the Universiteit van Amsterdam, BC’s futurist work
investigates the intersection of art and emerging technologies in ways that address their
impending social, political, and ethical impacts. As an Associate Member of the IEEE, BC
serves on standards working groups for Ethically Aligned Design and Algorithmic Bias in
Artificial Intelligence.
