Aileen Owens

Aileen Owens is Director of Technology and Innovation at South Fayette School District. Currently her focus is on building computational thinking and creativity in the K-12 curriculum. She is developing a scope and sequence for computational thinking through STEAM curriculum that includes problem solving, habits of mind, and career vision. Aileen has introduced Scratch computer programming to the 5th, 6th, and 7th grade curriculum.

Aileen has helped South Fayette form partnerships to expand the boundaries of learning such as those with: Zulama and instructors from the Entertainment Technology Center, CMU, to bring an after-school video gamemaking club to 6th and 7th graders; the Create Lab to bring Robo Art to the 8th grade art enrichment course; Winchester Thurston’s Android App Lab to help high school students build prototype games as Apps using Processing Programming language; and The Center for Educational Technologies, Wheeling Jesuit University, to study the impact of simulations on career vision.
